Hutch Founder and CEO Bea Fischel-Bock sat down with Nashville-based interior designer Hannah Crowell of Crowell + Co to talk creativity, style, and entrepreneurship. Plus, a stunning dining room scheme curated by Hannah is now available on the app!

What’s your everyday uniform?
A flow dress of some sort, huge earrings, too many bracelets… I joke and say I am like a young Bea Arther or Iris Apfel. Super sexy!!

What 3 words best describe your style?
Modern bohemian meets Southern California/Southern Belle… Sounds crazy, I know!

How do you stay creative from season to season?
I travel a lot. That is my biggest inspiration.

What’s the best advice you ever received?
Don’t take yourself too seriously.

How has your business grown over the years, and how do you see it growing in the future?
Just like with aging — you become more comfortable in your own skin as you get older. As my business has aged I have learned to put less pressure on myself to be successful or to land a project. I have found that as I just let go and do what i love and be myself, the business [grows] tremendously and I attract the projects that are truly a good fit.

Do you have a favorite place to shop for furniture in Nashville?
I buy most everything online or through the trade vendors, but I LOVE Wilder and Gas Lamp Antiques locally.

What is your favorite piece of furniture or decor in your home?
I love my bedroom wallpaper so much it hurts! I also love our old piano.

When you’re designing, which piece of furniture do you begin with?
Practically, you have to start with a bed in the bedroom or a sofa in the living room just for special planning. But I generally start with a feel or vibe and the rest sort of happens from there.

What’s more important — style or functionality?
Functionality 100%. I have kids and dogs and if i did not consider the practicality of life it would be a disaster! That said, I also think you can have both.

What is your favorite room or corner in your house and why?
I love my front room because the blue sofa is so comfy and I love being surrounded by books and music. It’s my favorite reading spot in [my] home.

What interior design concepts are you most inspired by right now? Is there a trend that you wish would go away?
If I never saw another piece of reclaimed wood, it would be too soon! I just hate it! I am really all over the place with design trends that inspire me. I love the minimalism of Scandinavian design and incorporate that a good bit. I also love vibrant Moroccan tiles and never met a wallpaper I did not love. The fun part is figuring out how to incorporate it all and have it all be beautiful and cohesive.
